Introduction

Among the most remarkable figures in human history, Prophet Isa (A.S.)—known as Jesus in Christian tradition—stands as a symbol of divine mercy, purity, and miraculous power. His story begins with a miracle, continues with compassion, and ends with a divine mystery that still inspires hearts across generations. In the Qur’an, Allah exalts Isa (A.S.) as a messenger of truth, a spirit from Him, and a sign for all of humanity.

The Miraculous Birth

The story of Prophet Isa (A.S.) begins with his blessed mother, Maryam (A.S.), one of the most honored women in Islam. Chosen above all women, she devoted herself to worship in the sacred temple. One day, while in solitude, Angel Jibreel (A.S.) appeared before her in human form, bringing a divine message:

“Indeed, Allah gives you good tidings of a Word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Isa, son of Maryam—distinguished in this world and the Hereafter.”
(Surah Aal ‘Imran, 3:45)

Marym (A.S.) was astonished. She had never been touched by a man. Yet Allah, in His boundless power, willed the impossible. She conceived Prophet Isa (A.S.) miraculously, without a father—a reminder that the Creator’s command is only, “Be!” and it is.

When the time came, she withdrew to a distant place, enduring the pains of childbirth alone under a palm tree. In her distress, a voice comforted her:

“Do not grieve; your Lord has provided a stream beneath you. And shake the trunk of the palm tree—it will drop upon you ripe dates.”
(Surah Maryam, 19:24–25)

Thus, Isa (A.S.) entered the world as a miracle, speaking truth even as an infant.

Speaking in the Cradle

When Maryam (A.S.) returned to her people carrying the newborn, they were shocked and accused her of wrongdoing. In response, she pointed to her child. The people exclaimed, “How can we speak to a baby in the cradle?”

Then, by Allah’s command, the infant Isa (A.S.) spoke:

“Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet.”
(Surah Maryam, 19:30)

With these words, Isa (A.S.) defended his mother’s honor and declared his divine mission—a sign that Allah’s power transcends all human limits.

His Message and Miracles

As Prophet Isa (A.S.) grew, Allah granted him profound wisdom, compassion, and miraculous abilities. He healed the blind and the leper, brought the dead back to life, and shaped a bird from clay and breathed into it—by Allah’s permission.

“And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead—by Allah’s leave.”
(Surah Aal ‘Imran, 3:49)

But his miracles were never for fame or power—they were signs of Allah’s mercy and proof of the truth he carried. Isa (A.S.) called his people to worship only Allah, saying:

“Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is the straight path.”
(Surah Maryam, 19:36)

Yet many rejected his message, twisted his words, and plotted against him. Despite their hatred, Isa (A.S.) never returned anger for anger; he responded with peace, forgiveness, and love for the oppressed.

The Divine Rescue

When his enemies conspired to crucify him, Allah’s divine plan intervened. The Qur’an clearly declares:

“They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him—but it was made to appear so to them.”
(Surah An-Nisa, 4:157)

Allah raised Isa (A.S.) to the heavens, saving him from their treachery. His followers were left divided, but the truth remains: Isa (A.S.) was neither crucified nor killed. He lives, and his return before the Day of Judgment is promised—a sign of the final victory of truth.

Lessons from Prophet Isa (A.S.)

• Purity and Faith: His birth and life remind us that Allah’s will transcends all natural laws.

• Mercy and Forgiveness: Isa (A.S.) taught compassion even for one’s enemies.
